Selection Of Grit And Hardness Of Resin Abrasives

Selection Of Grit And Hardness Of Resin Abrasives
May 31 , 2022

The grit selection of resin grinding disc should consider factors such as workpiece size, geometric accuracy, surface roughness, grinding efficiency and how to avoid certain defects.

Generally speaking, when it is required to have high efficiency, large surface roughness value, large contact surface between grinding plate and workpiece, or grinding plate to workpiece bevel, high toughness and elongation of workpiece material, and processing thin-walled workpieces, the larger grit should be selected. On the contrary, when processing materials with high hardness, brittleness, and compact structure; when fine grinding, shape polishing or high-speed grinding, a smaller grit should be selected. The commonly used particle size is 46-80. Use coarse-grained abrasive discs for rough grinding and fine-grained abrasive discs for fine grinding. In addition, end grinding should be coarser than that of circumferential grinding; dry grinding should be coarser than wet grinding.

The general principle of grinding disc hardness selection is: when grinding hard materials, soft grinding discs should be selected to maintain good "self-sharpening", improve the service life of grinding discs, reduce grinding force and grinding heat; When cutting soft materials, a hard grinding wheel should be used, which can keep the sharp edge of the abrasive grain for a long time, which is conducive to cutting. Details are as follows:

1. When grinding non-ferrous metal workpieces with great toughness, cutting tools with high sharpening hardness, grinding thin-walled parts and materials that have blocked polishing pads, softer grinding pads should be used; mirror grinding should choose ultra-soft grinding pads.

2. The workpiece materials are the same, longitudinal grinding and plunge grinding, peripheral grinding and end face grinding, cylindrical grinding and internal and surface grinding, wet grinding and dry grinding, fine grinding and rough grinding, and intermittent surface grinding. Grinding and continuous surface grinding, etc., the former should use a harder abrasive than the latter.

3. For high-speed, high-precision grinding, blank grinding, workpiece deburring, etc., a harder grinding disc should be selected.
