Matters needing attention in the overall grinding and polishing of concrete floors
Oct 24 , 2022

What are the specific methods, standards and testing methods for rough grinding and leveling of concrete? In the various concrete floor construction sites we have encountered in the past, our construction personnel have taken several rough grinding "open face" leveling experiments through the formation characteristics and use status of various concrete floors on site, and concluded that the following three options for rough grinding "open face" leveling and grinding concrete floors are presented.

The first type: rough grinding and leveling "open surface" is to start rough grinding and grinding from 50# diamond resin grinding disc, and then grind 150# and 300# resin grinding discs step by step. Most of these cases are emery concrete wear-resistant floors or relatively flat grindstone floors that have been ground and polished but are relatively old and polluted.

The second type: "open surface" rough grinding, using 100# or 150# resin grinding discs to grind on the relatively flat concrete surface that has been treated. Grind off some shallow contaminants or hardware drag marks, or floors corroded by acid agents, and then infiltrate, grind and polish with a curing agent according to process and functional requirements into mirror-finished concrete floors.

The third type: "open face" rough grinding, which is the most common and the most used grinding method in actual operation. It is to open the pores on the concrete surface by grinding with a rough metal cutter head grinding block (usually using metal cutter head 16#, or 30#, 50#), and make the concrete floor very smooth, and then grind it step by step. Polish it until the customer is satisfied with the result.

To sum up, the above three rough grinding "open-face" grinding methods are the premise and basic process of concrete floor curing and polishing concrete floor grinding process. All belong to the "open face" grinding and leveling process based on the actual concrete base surface. It is of vital importance and cannot be ignored or casual. If the concrete floor with coarse resin grinding disc is used for new pouring or old potholes, it will definitely not be able to open the concrete base surface to expose the sand, and it cannot be leveled, and the grinding disc wears very fast, the grinding disc is replaced frequently, and the construction efficiency is extremely low. Not worth the loss. To know that sharpening knives is not wrong for lumberjacks! Even if the grinding and polishing are completed step by step according to the process, it is impossible to achieve the ground effect that the customer or ourselves cannot pass. So you have to start all over again! The past is in vain! Therefore, we must go to the construction site to check and formulate the corresponding grinding plan according to the ground conditions before construction, and prepare several kinds of open-face rough grinding metal cutter head grinding blocks.

If it is found that the concrete floor has a color difference after rough grinding, some areas are light gray, and some areas are dark gray, it may be that the rough grinding of the open surface is not deep enough, the laitance on the concrete surface has not been ground, or the grinding pressure is uneven. When grinding, you can try to increase the pressure of the grinding machine grinding disc, and push the machine forward at a constant speed. Or check the flatness of the machine grinding disc. If it is not flat, adjust the grinding disc to be flat before grinding. If the grinding disc vibration damping pad is broken, the grinding pressure of the grinding disc will be uneven, the wear and tear of the grinding block and the grinding disc will be uneven, and the thickness will appear, which will cause uneven grinding or grinding blind spots on the ground. At this time, all grinding disc vibration damping pads must be replaced with new ones.

If the grinding pressure is large enough, the grinding depth is deep enough, and there is still uneven concrete color difference, it is possible that the concrete floor is not poured from the commercial concrete delivered by the mixing station, but belongs to the concrete that is manually mixed and poured on site. It is caused by various factors such as uneven mixing or improper maintenance, which is an essential original ecological phenomenon. If the customer owner has a high-end environment and very high requirements, in this case, the overall dyeing, grinding and curing treatment can be carried out by deploying a dyeing agent that is the same or similar to a certain area of the concrete, or the whole layer of high-strength structural cement mortar can be re-grinded. Cured polished finish. If it is found that the sanding and sanding are particularly serious after the "open surface" rough grinding, it may be that the concrete paved by manual mixing, the ratio of ash to sand is not up to standard, or the cement has expired, or the concrete has not reached the predetermined structure due to improper maintenance and strength. At this time, you can stop the rough grinding of the open surface, clean the surface, and then do the successive penetration curing treatment of the concrete sealing curing agent, and then do the open surface grinding experiment and cooperate with the quartz paste to grind and polish it into a mirror.
